I'm so glad you found this helpful! W...Summer! I'm so glad you found this helpful! We have had success with the following passages, Psalm 1, Psalm 23 and Psalm 100. I've tried some that were longer, and it seems like there is a limit to what my children's attention span can handle right now, at ages 3 and 4.

I'd be interested to hear what you find as you work with your kids. I have found lots of resources that address how to help kids remember scripture immediately, but few that talk about results that last through the years. Memorization isn't used much in modern education, so it's kind of a unique topic. I hadn't really thought about it, but you're right about typical memory verses for kids being all about their behavior, and less about learning the character of God. My kids are 4 and 2, and at a perfect age to introduce a habit of learning Scripture. I would be interested in your recommendations for a few longer passages. Thanks Christy. --SummerSGShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17101831533360839106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-425139564620005246.post-48637683791315464072013-04-03T08:07:05.285-07:002013-04-03T08:07:05.285-07:00Hi Christy!
Thanks for the insightful post! I al...Hi Christy!

Thanks for the insightful post! I also find that extended passages are much easier to "locate" in memory over the long term. Verse references seem to be more difficult for our minds to hold on to than the verses themselves. And without a reference, or starting place, there's no easy way to dig up those verses we've memorized. Have you tried using http://scripturetyper.com for memorizing extended passages? I think you'll find that it really speeds up the memorization process. The physical act of typing seems to really help.
